Pictures Are Worth a 1,000 Words

This past weekend was Labor Day, and I was more than ready to get away from the city for a few days. So, me and a handful of friend headed north… Up to my parents lake house for a little R&R.

I’m pretty sure the pictures will tell the story a lot better than I could.

The weekend started off on Saturday with one of my favorites girls.

Then this guy showed up…. The three of us took a (very fast, very bumpy) boat ride and enjoyed the afternoon soaking up some sun anchored out in a cove. After the fear of dieing had subsided I had the privilege of getting to know our fearless captain a little bit better. Truly an honor to have yet another amazing friend come into my life.

Saturday evening brought more friends…

And lots of pictures, with bright flashes….

Each morning there was homemade breakfast. Mickey Mouse made his debut Sunday morning, along with chocolate chip pancakes.

After breakfast we hit the lake! This time there were five of us…

We laughed, we swam, we played a few games of Never Have I Ever….

Before long, all of the getting to know you games allowed Cupid to work some of his magic. I love this picture!

By Monday we were ready for something new. Out came the baseball and Frisbee.

We even tried our luck scavenging through the woods.

But the sun came out and we were ready to get back to the water! Before I knew it we were having an all out lake party.

Our toes were in the sand…

And the beach games began!

But by far my favorite moment of the weekend was when we turned on the computer, hooked it up to the TV and jumped on the couch to “go to church”. It was a great time as we all came together to watch the live stream from Buckhead Church. It was a genuine, very real, moment that proved to me once again that I have some amazing people in my life!

Life is like IKEA furniture. Sometimes you have to take it apart so you can put it back together the right way.

Isn’t it weird how our memories work? Almost exactly a year ago I was in Michigan, living by myself with a social circle that consisted of me, myself and I. At the time, I was happy and content doing things all by myself…. Like going to IKEA.

I have a vivid memory of going into the Michigan IKEA. I was in search of bar stools for my new apartment and very confident in my ability to handle the errand on my own. Although the store overwhelmed me with its size, I left feeling content, happy and uber independent.

Fast forward a year. I find myself in IKEA again. This time back in Georgia….with four friends by my side. We played in the apartment displays and pushed each other around in the wheeled office chairs. We laughed at each others recommendations and navigated the store like we were pros. The shopping this time was a whole different experience.
The trip left me wondering how in the world I ever survived without people… more importantly these people.
