Taking it for Granted

In my week of returning back to society, much as happened. First of all, I am happy to report that I was officially deemed “healthy” by my doctor yesterday. Which, by all standards, is a good thing. I am now contacting heart surgeons in preparation for my hospital bill…

My BFF from Georgia flew up last Friday for “Girls Weekend 2008″. I can assure you that we didn’t let a little hospital stay slow us down. Kristy and I ate, drank, and played hard for a good 48 hours. She visited me at this same time last year… Oh how far I’ve come. I remember that last year we sat in my apartment like hermits. We watched movies and ate at Subway. This year, I don’t think we were in my apartment for more than a few hours at a time. Now that I know my way around…We ate at some great restaurants. We shopped at a great outlet mall. And we went out… to some great “scenes”. It was truly a gift to have her in town.

In Frankenmuth… The “Helen” of Michigan.

At the Birch Run Outlets… She went a little crazy in the Coach store.

In other news: I hear that Georgia has run out of gas. Here in Michigan, our gas supply is fine, and really quite cheap at the moment. Kristy was shocked when she saw that I could get a gallon of regular gas for $3.60 (without waiting in line). Normally, Michigan gas is at least a quarter more expensive per gallon then what my family is paying down south. We were trying to devise a plan on how she could get some gas back to Georgia… I’m pretty sure gasoline is not allowed on airplanes.

This past week has made me take a long look at things that are easily taken for granted…

Like, your health. It can be taken from you in an instant! Although my little incident was purely a fluke… it shows me that I’m not as invincible as I had thought.

Like, that BP will always have an endless supply of gas. We jump into our cars without necessarily worrying about our next fill-up. We assume that when our gas light comes on there will be a station at the next corner.

Like, your job. The bad economy has now directly effected my family. Taking a 20% cut in pay hurts. It is easy to assume that the paychecks will always continue. But that’s just not the case…

Take a moment…hug your family, take a jog around your neighborhood, wash your car, and send your boss some flowers.
